Jeju Island is Korea's undisputed #1 domestic destination — and one of Northeast Asia's most rewarding island getaways for international visitors. Four days is the sweet spot: Seongsan's UNESCO volcanic crater, the car-free island of Udo, Hallasan's alpine trails, and Jeju's emerald west coast all fit without rushing. Built with Tripop AI, verified for 2026.

Jeju's volcanic coastline near Seongsan — black basalt lava rock meets clear blue water
Jeju's first impression: black basalt lava rock stretching to the sea. Seongsan Ilchulbong rises in the distance. This is a volcanic island — and it shows everywhere.

Why 4 days?

Jeju is 1 hour by air from Seoul — but the island stretches 73km east-west. Seongsan (east) and Hyeopjae (west) are 75km apart. Without a car, you simply can't do both in one day. The 4-day structure:

  • Day 1 (arrival): Dongmun + Hamdeok
  • Day 2: Seongsan + Udo + Seopjikoji
  • Day 3: Hallasan + Manjanggul
  • Day 4 (departure): Hyeopjae + airport

Two days means dropping either Hallasan or Seongsan. Five days adds Olle trail hiking, sea kayaking, or horse riding — but the four core highlights fit comfortably in 3 nights.

Before You Go — Car, Flights, SIM

The 2nd-floor food hall offers hairtail stew (set meal ₩15,000-20,000/person), while the ground floor is good for Jeju tangerine chocolate and souvenirs. Hamdeok is 15 minutes east of Jeju City — one of the most photogenic beaches on the north coast, with calm water even in summer.

🍜
Jeju Black Pork — The Island's Signature Dish

Jeju's native black pork (heukdon) has distinctly richer flavor and softer texture than standard pork. Thick samgyeopsal (pork belly) around 200g runs ₩20,000-30,000/person. The local way: dip in mel-jeot (salted fermented anchovies). Pair with Hallasan soju (₩2,500 for 350mL). Best near Dongmun Market or Jeju City restaurant streets.

Day 2 tips:

Seongsan Sunrise Peak — UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. The crater was formed 100,000 years ago by a single undersea eruption. Summit hike is about 30 minutes (steep but manageable). For sunrise (May-Aug): arrive by 05:00, sunrise around 05:20-05:50. The ₩5,000 entrance fee is among the best value in Korea.

Udo Island — Jeju's most famous offshore island. Key rule: rental cars from the mainland cannot board the ferry. Park at Seongsan terminal, take the ferry, then rent a local electric scooter or e-bike on Udo (IDP required). Last ferry back is around 17:00 — don't miss it.

Seopjikoji — A wind-swept promontory 5 minutes from Seongsan. No admission fee. Famous as a filming location, the basalt cliff walk with lighthouse views is worth 45 minutes.

Seongsan Ilchulbong — UNESCO Volcanic Crater

Adults ₩5,000, youth/children ₩2,500. May-Aug opens 04:30 (sunrise possible), Nov-Feb 06:00-18:00. 30-min summit hike. UNESCO World Natural Heritage. The crater floor has paddy fields — uniquely surreal. Park at Seongsan Ilchulbong parking lot (₩2,000/2h).

Day 4 tip — Hyeopjae is on the west coast, 35 minutes from Jeju City by car. The water color here — shallow, crystal clear with white sand and Biyangdo Island in the background — is the most photographed in Jeju. Morning light before 10:00 gives the best color.

Jeju's west coast near Hyeopjae — emerald sea and rocky coastline with Biyangdo island view
Hyeopjae Beach area at morning. The turquoise water, Biyangdo in the distance, and empty roads — this is the last morning worth waking up early for.
Jeju volcanic coastline — black lava rock and clear sea, typical of Jeju Island's unique landscape
