Montparnasse Tower observation deck

A 210m, 59-floor tower in southern central Paris. Its 56th-floor deck is the one viewpoint that frames the Eiffel Tower, Sacré-Cœur and Arc de Triomphe in a single shot. Parisians joke it has the best view 'because it's the only place you can't see the tower.'

History

Built 1969–1973 (opened 1973), the 210m, 59-floor skyscraper was France's tallest until the 231m Tour First in 2011. A modern tower in the historic center proved so controversial that, two years after completion, Paris banned buildings over seven storeys in the city core.

Getting there

It sits directly atop the Montparnasse-Bienvenüe Métro station, so access is easy. An elevator rises to the 56th-floor (200m) deck, where on a clear day you can see 40km — even planes taking off from Orly. The Ciel de Paris restaurant shares the floor.

Tips

  • ·Admission ~€20
  • ·Arrive ~30 min before sunset for dusk + the Eiffel light-up
  • ·Far shorter queues than the Eiffel or Notre-Dame
